The Grasshopper Rebellion Circus comes to Academy Green in Kingston today

KINGSTON, N.Y. >> The Grasshopper Rebellion Circus comes to Academy Green at the corner of Albany and Clinton avenues in Kingston from 5:30 to 7 p.m. today.

The Grasshopper Rebellion Circus is described as “a large-scale puppet spectacle that explains and teaches riot and rebellion against intolerable situations with the help of state of the art paper-maché weaponry and the appropriately riotous Bread and Puppet Brass Band,” according to an event announcement.

“Tigers roar, apes drum their chests, horses neigh, and celestial grasshoppers teach ICE agents the basic steps of grasshopper rebellion dancing,” said Bread and Puppet Director Peter Schumann in the announcement. “A paradise investigation team analyses the earthlings’ relationship to paradise, while major representatives of Mother Earth attend a festive Puerto Rican dance of liberation from natural and political disaster,” Schumann said.

After “a key national date fell through earlier this week,” the production was put together “thanks to Radio Kingston, Bard College, and many local friends and collaborators who are welcoming us to Kingston,” the announcement said.
