Remember when Sarah Palin was running as Vice-President in 2008? That was a fun time, right? Well, she hasn’t gone away.
In fact, the former Governor of Alaska is still an object of ridicule, at least where Sasha Baron-Cohen is concerned.
The teaser for the comedian/actor/satirist’s new TV series ‘Who is America?’ showed former Vice-President Dick Cheney signing a ‘waterboarding kit’, but it seems that Palin will also play a part in the series – and she’s not too happy about it.
She’s calling on Baron-Cohen to donate all the profits from the series to a military veterans’ group after saying that she was tricked into appearing on it, after Baron-Cohen disguised himself as a disabled US veteran. She travelled to Washington to take part in an interview with him, saying “This ‘legit opportunity’ to honor American Vets and contribute to a ‘legit Showtime historical documentary’ was requested of me via a speakers bureau.
“Out of respect for what I was led to believe would be a thoughtful discussion with someone who had served in uniform, I sat through a long ‘interview’ full of Hollywoodism’s disrespect and sarcasm — but finally had enough and literally, physically removed my mic and walked out, much to Cohen’s chagrin.”
She called Baron-Cohen “shallow Sasha boy” and said: “The disrespect of our U.S. military and middle-class Americans via Cohen’s foreign commentaries under the guise of interview questions was perverse” before calling on him and Showtime to donate the profits to a military vets’ group. “Mock politicians and innocent public personalities all you want, if that lets you sleep at night,” she said, “but HOW DARE YOU mock those who have fought and served our country.”
Well, that’s certainly one way to drum up publicity…
