Peoria Municipal Band concerts feature music of the ’80s and dance

PEORIA — The Peoria Municipal Band, under the direction of David Vroman, will present concerts in the Peoria Warehouse District on Wednesday and in the Glen Oak Park Amphitheater on July 15 and 22. Concerts are at 7 p.m. and admission is free.

The July 15 concert is titled “Bug Rock” with selections from “A Bug’s Life,” “The Flintstones” and other well-known musical favorites including marches and Broadway tunes. Rebecca Opperman and Mollie Krueger will be featured vocal soloists and violinist Molly Wilson will be the featured instrumentalist.

The theme for Wednesday’s concert is “Music of the ’80s.” The concert is at the corner of State and Water streets; bring lawn chairs or sit at the tables provided by Kelleher’s. Colleen Rice and Beckett Kenny will be featured vocal soloists and drummer Jeremy Clark will be the featured instrumentalist.

The band will open with “Music for a Darkened Theater” followed by “Cloudburst March.” Other selections include: “Thriller!,” “Tijuana Brass in Concert,” “Happy Days” as well as several marches, pop tunes and tunes from the ’80s.

The July 22 concert will be “A World of Dance” with music including “Gypsy Dance,” “Tango Argentina,” “Arabian Dance” and other musical favorites. Rice and Beckett will again be featured vocal soloists and Clark will be the featured instrumentalist.
