Do you earn as much as a cat, dog or chicken? Pet food brand Webbox has launched a Pets of the Net salary calculator, where you can compare your income with the earnings of the social media’s richest pet celebrities.
In contrast to the UK average salary of £27,600 a year, Grumpy Cat (pictured) – whose claim to fame is looking cheesed off – earns twice as much as a top chief executive at over £9 million a year, getting paid the average UK salary in just 25 hours and 54 minutes.
Fatso, the original Keyboard Cat, earned a little less at £7 million a year.Keyboard Cat’s salary was based on the original Keyboard Cat video recorded in the 1980s.
Webbox calculated the figure based on the average annual earnings of the other famous pets (£3.5 million) and retrospectively applied the Bank of England’s inflation calculator on a career spanning 10 years.
Not the richest but probably the most pampered pet, Chanel designer Karl Lagerfeld’s blue-eyed white Birman cat Choupette, who has two personal maids to brush and cuddle her, earns about the same from modelling and endorsements as Cara Delevingne at £2.8 million a year.
But it’s not all about cats: Gigoo, the world’s richest chicken, was bequeathed £10 million by his publisher owner, Miles Blackwell. By dividing her inheritance by 17 years, the number of years she was active, she earns £656,250 a year.
Meanwhile, Doug the Pug, star of Katy Perry’s Swish Swish Video last year, earns £350,00 a year – 13 times more than the UK average salary.
However, top dog is the Pomeranian JiffPom, who earned £4,375,000 a year just for looking cute and fluffy.
