Andover actor in show at Regis College

Among the young actors performing in Regis College’s youth theater organization this summer is Andover resident Spencer Daniel.

In its 56th season, the youth drama group — named the Weston Drama Workshop — will stage six productions this summer at Regis College. Participants are between the ages of 10 and 23 years old and have been rehearsing for these productions since early June.

Weston Drama Workshop continues its long-standing tradition of providing the MetroWest community and beyond with quality youth theater.

WDW’s younger ensemble will perform Stephen Schwartz and John Caird’s “Children of Eden,” a joyous and inspirational musical based on the story of Genesis. Directed by Aidan O’Hara, this show features a cast of 60 young actors between the ages of 10 and 14.

Smaller casts will perform “The Musical Adventures of Flat Stanley,” based on the popular book by Jeff Brown and directed by Katie Brobst, and “The Stinky Cheeseman and Other Fairly Stupid Tales,” based on the book by Jon Scieszka and co-directed by Tristan Burke and Callie Llewellyn.

In total, there are over 25 performances by WDW this summer. These are Theatre for Young Audiences (TYA) productions which have two public performances each and the group will travel throughout the community, performing at local summer camps and senior residences.

Daniel will play Albert and Roosevelt in “Newsies.” He is a member of the older ensemble, ages 14-23, and they will perform two main stage musicals and one black box play. Audiences will experience the thrill of rebellion in Disney’s “Newsies.”
